Case of enzootic postitis in post weaning lambs
Abstract
Enzootic postitis is usually seen in older lambs and adult rams in mating term. The aim of this report is to describe the cases of "enzootic postitis" detected in 6 Merino male lambs aged 75-90 days and to compare the clinical and laboratory findings with 6 healthy lambs. The etiological diagnosis of the disease was made by isolating Corynebacterium renale, Staphylococcus intermedius, Streptococcus uberis and Truperella pyogenes in the microbiological examination of preputial samples of affected lambs. While there were no statistical differences observed in body temperature, total leukocyte count and hematocrit concentrations between the diseased and healthy lambs; mean urine pH values were found to be 8.41 and 7.66, respectively (p<0,05). In this report, the severe and widespread disease is presented in male lambs aged 75-90 days for the first time, so the importance of correct ration planning was emphasized in during lamb rearing period.
